Team Expectations
  1. This is a team.  There are no Individuals.  Everyone acts and breathes as one.  What you do everyday is reflected on your uniform, your team, your coach, your school and your city.  RESPECT THE TEAM.  That means at practice, on the bus, and at meets we act as one unit.  We warm- up together, we cheer together, we sit together, and we cool-down together. Leave everything at the door and be the team’s strongest link.  You are not above the team- CHS cross country has been around for 43 years- it will be around for another 43 + years with or without you.
  2. Practice and Meets.
    1. Be on time.  We will start practice and leave for meets promptly.
    2. 65 days of practices and meets: which includes the Regional and the Banquet (these are mandatory for all athletes to attend).
    3. This is a VARSITY SPORT.
      1. Varsity Sport Goals at Centerville High School
        1. To WIN
        2. For every student to improve athletically and to enhance their abilities on the playing field.
        3. To work hard and to carry a positive attitude.
        4. For every student to learn the basic of training/running.  To enable a student the ability of lifetime fitness.
        5. To enable students the ability to COMPETE AT THE COLLEGIATE LEVEL.
        6. A non-excused absence EQUALS= automatic removal from the team.  THE COACH NEEDS TO KNOW BEFORE HAND IF YOU HAVE TO MISS PRACTICE.  THIS ALSO CONCERNS SICKNESSES.  ALWAYS CALL OR EMAIL WECKESSER IN ADVANCE OR YOU WILL NOT ONLY DISAPPOINT THE COACH, BUT THE TEAM AND ULTIMATELY YOURSELF.
        7. EXCUSED ABSENCES- academic issues and sicknesses.
        8. UNEXCUSED ABSENCES- another sport.  Cross Country is a fall sport and takes precedence (set by the athletic department) over winter and spring sports.  Also- Club sports during the season is not excusable.  They jeopardize your energy, fitness level, and overall goal of peaking at the right time.
        9. PE credit means you need not miss more than 6 days for any reason: sickness or family emergency from Monday August 6, 2007- Saturday October 28. Saturday October 14th (SAT test date) is the GWOC, Saturday October 28th (ACT test date) is the Regional, Saturday November 4th (SAT test date) is the State meet- these are not excusable absences- they will be counted as a miss. Schedule your academic priorities in the summer or in December.  You can also take these tests during the week at other locations.
Varsity means top 7 individuals on the team for a race.  Varsity is not determined by the 7 fastest times.  Coaches make the decision for varsity by dedication, determination, teamwork, hard-work, and opinion on how well the athlete could run.  Remember a reserve race is easier to run than a varsity race.
