2007 XC Parent Meeting

  1. Welcome to one of the largest organizations at Centerville High School.
  2. Long tradition at Centerville High School- Winning meets, being the biggest team, arriving to meets with 8-10 buses sometimes, our spirit at meets ‘we are the ELKS’, and most importantly our parent support.  SEA of yellow on race day (probably the biggest reason we are so good- parental support).
  3. I challenge you to be active in this sport with your son.  Ask questions. (injuries, fatigue. shoes)- these are major issues that will keep your son happy all season long.

  1. Your family needs to fill out the following forms:  (1) Physical, (2) Emergency Medical Form (3) Eligibility (yellow), (4) Park district form—All can be found at the Centerville High School Web page. And on the table in front of you.
  1. Practice schedule- interval days will be longer than long run days.  Interval days are at Forest Field and long run days are at Sugarcreek normally.
  2. Meet schedule- with the magnitude and size of our program we have the opportunity to host meets.
    • We host Saturday Night Lights @ Watts- Amy Williams will talk to you later about volunteering, Adidas is sponsoring the event this year, any extra help would be great.  Any company that wants to help sponsor the meet with generators, we need basic items like coolers but we also need big items like gator to drive in front and behind the race.
    • Girls host the Centerville Stampede also @ Watts
    • The XC program is a STATE power- our schedule reflects this because we were 6th last year.
  3. Running Shoes- only equipment you need to buy your son.  2 really good stores close by:
    • Runner’s Plus- across from the mall behind Olive Garden next to Soccer Plus
    • Endurance Sports- Wilmington Pike next to Cub foods- deal right now- buy a pair of shoes and you get a free pair of spikes $40 value at least
  4. Team Adidas Clima-lite Long Sleeve Shirts- Sandstorm/Vegas Gold color.  The kids wanted a long sleeve shirt to warm-up in during August, September when it is hot.  The shirts are going to be around $30, but they will keep them all 4 years of XC and we have a contract with Adidas that they will keep supplying them to us for the next 4 years.
  5. Nutrition - as with any athletic endeavor nutrition is a key element in maintaining growth, supply of blood, and recovery.  We will encourage your sons all year to eat healthy.
  6. Sleep- recovering from workouts is a major part of athletics.  Sleep of 8-9 hours and naps everyday will help the recovery of muscle tissues.
  7. Injuries- we recommend your son icing everyday.  Shins and knees are crucial areas that need to be iced everyday to prevent injuries.  (1) Dixie Cup-direct icing, (2) bag of ice, (3) cold whirlpool. Stretching and self massage will also help reduce injuries to muscle and ligament tissues.
  8. Amy Williams is the booster representative.  (470-3452) amy.williams@woh.rr.com. She will help coordinate many areas this year including: (1) parent shirts, (2) dinners (3) Night Race, (4) GWOC, (5) Banquet, (6) and pictures.  It is like a full time job- I am thanking her in advance.  Please help her/our program out by volunteering.  It is a great active way to get involved with your son’s life.
  9. Before leaving- fill out the parent email sheet and sign up to volunteer with Amy Williams.
