PE Option For All Centerville High School Sports

Course Description
The Physical Education Option is available to student athletes, members of after school marching band and flag corps, cheerleaders, and Coed members who practice and participate on a daily basis.

This psychomotor option focuses on 1) physical fitness, 2)motor skill development, 3) participation, 4) sports fitness, and 5) following the Athletic Code with no infractions. Daily participation paralleling the official sport season must be completed at a 90% attendance level in the specific activity for credit to be granted. All students who choose this option will be required to attend two (2) ninety (90) minute seminars on sports medicine for EACH Physical Education Option that is selected.

The mandatory sports medicine seminars will be held after school, on a Saturday afternoon or Sunday evening during the sport season. No excused absence will be accepted for seminar activities. Sports seasons are determined by the official starting date of the activity and conclude with the final formal activity of the group.

Students must complete the sports medicine seminars during the same school year as their activity to receive credit. The Educational Options Counselor monitors all processes and procedures and is the communicator with the individual guidance office.

Process
1. Following each season the coach of each sport will designate which athletes have fulfilled the 90%
attendance and participation requirement.
2. During the current year students must complete two sports medicine seminars taught during the school
year of sport participation.
3. At the sports medicine seminars, students will complete paperwork to verify their attendance.
4. The Options Coordinator compiles the information and sends the forms to the appropriate guidance
office for recording on the student’s transcript and for filing in the student’s permanent record file.

Credit
Completion of the activity season by athletes, marching band members, cheerleaders, and fall Coeds will earn 1/4 credit, which equates to one Physical Education course.
The coach, director, or supervisor of the program will be the final determiner of the 90% participation rate. The athlete must finish the season in good standing in order to
receive the PE Option Credit. No more than two (2) Physical Education credits (1/4 each) may be obtained through this pass/fail option.
