Dayton Relays because it starts the official season as far as track fans are concerned in Dayton.
GWOC because it is how we are measured at CHS, it brings out the best and it is the best conference meet in the state!
Best Track Memory

As an Athlete - I PR'd by 26 feet at the Missouri Valley Conference meet (at Drake University) in the hammer throw. I was seeded 14th coming in and I got fired up and threw out of my mind. The best part was that I lettered and we went 1st thru 5th place as a team (I was 5th and named all conference) The best part was calling home and telling my parents what happened- it was awesome!

As a Coach - we have won 4 of the last 6 district titles but winning the 1st one (2002) will be burned in my mind as a highlight so far as a head coach (Middletown would go on to win the state but we beat them head up as a team that year so it was even better) Great things happen when you believe in each other and race to win

Former Track Athlete That You Coached Who Made An Impression
Greg Brown
I enjoyed coaching GB because I was able to see him grow up. I coached him in 7th grade football and kept telling him that he would be great as a "track man" and he would laugh and say he was just football. He ended up being an all-state performer as a senior as well as competing at the Junior National meet at Stanford University. He went to Fork Union Military Academy then Indiana University where he plays now. He will graduate this year with his degree in business and will be a captain for the Hoosiers next fall. He is a great example of hard work and never giving up but also not being afraid to ask for help and then using it.
Former Coach That Coached You Who Made An Impression
My dad, Criss Somerlot was my high school coach (head coach as well as throws coach). It was stressful at times but I enjoyed it so much and look back on it with fond memories. I just wish I had listened more, I would have been so much better!
Favorite Track Event To Watch
There is nothing better than a great 4x400 relay
Favorite Concession Food
Two way tie between a soft pretzel and the Welcome Stadium hot dog
Favorite Track Quote
"Champions are like biscuits, they rise when the heat is on"
What Does Track Mean To You
I think our sport is the best way to develop self confidence. You cannot hide on the track and it show everyone how hard you have worked. I love that you can get better each day and you have concrete evidence that it happens. This is what life can be if you set goals and go after them.
